Pumpkin time

Fall {according to the calendar} has officially begun!!

I feel it is very appropriate to start the week off with one of my favorite flavors.

I adore pumpkin {although not so much Pumpkin pie, I think its a texture thing}  Last year I started my "pumpkinpalooza" if you will.  My goal: to cram as many pumpkin recipes into the next months as sounds appetizing {don't want to ruin a good thing so I pace myself of course}.  I know this is nothing new, but I feel like I have some pretty amazing pumpkin recipes in my cupboard, so I am going to share a few along the way.  Hope you too will enjoy.

Starting with Starbucks Pumpkin Scones {from my friend CG, with my own modifications}

Scones Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
7 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
6 Tablespoons cold butter
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
3 Tablespoons half-and-half
1 large egg
1 cup white chocolate chips
Scones Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
2. Lightly grease a cookie sheet or line with parchment paper.
3. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and spices in a large mixing bowl.
4. With a fork, pastry knife, or food processor, cut butter into the dry ingredients until mixture is crumbly and no chunks of butter remain. Set aside.
5. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk pumpkin, half and half, and egg.
6. Fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Form the dough into a ball.
7. Smoosh in chocolate chips
8. Pat out dough onto a lightly floured surface and form it into a 1-inch thick rectangle (about 9 inches long and 3 inches wide).
9. Use a large knife to slice the dough into three equal portions. Cut diagonally to produce 6 triangular slices of dough.
10. Place on prepared baking sheet from step 2.
11. Bake for 14–16 minutes until scones turn light brown.
12. Place on wire rack to cool.

Modification 1, adding white chocolate chips {in case you didn't notice, I will always try to add some sort of chocolate anywhere I can}...

Modification 2 - brown butter cinnamon frosting {ridiculously good}

1/4 cup butter
2 cups powder sugar
1-2 T milk
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Heat butter in saucepan over medium heat past the melting point until it is boiling and just starting to brown with a nutlike aroma. Remove from the heat and immediately add the remaining ingredients. This should be thicker than a glaze and thinner than frosting.  Cool only slightly, drizzle over scones. Yum!

Notice the gleaming sunshine from our 80 degree indian summer day, I will admit it was lovely.

Happy Monday!

Kirsty

What do you think of these?

Happy Happy Happy Friday!

Lots to love today...

First day of fall!

80 degrees! {what? loving Seattle's indian summer} Seriously checked the weather forecast right before I left the house in leggings and sweater, thankfully ran back in and changed into shorts and tee.  Crazy.

And new Lucia K. Jewelry pieces being added to the collection!

Here's a peek at what one you will see in the next weeks on our website...

We are so very excited about these earrings

What do you think??  Look for them to be available by October on our website.  Antique Gold is the newest color, definitely feeling the 70's vibes this season, but of course we will have the classic antique copper and antique silver.

Happy Friday.

Best,
Kirsty

Scarf Tutorial and Sneak Peek...

I love scarves for many reasons - its the closest you can get to wearing a blanket and jammies out of the house while still dressing for success, they are a great way to add a pop of color to your wardrobe or update a plain jane jacket, they come in cashmere, and finally they'll go perfectly with your newest Lucia K. earrings, convinced yet?

How about a SUPER easy diy scarf?  I can hardly call this a tutorial.  This one is almost foolproof...super forgiving, I promise.

Here is what you need:

1. Scissors
2. Thread {that matches your fabric, or not}
3. Tape Measure

4. 3/4 yd fabric, for this scarf my fabric was 60" long - the fabric you choose will dictate how easy this project is...I went with a loose weave cashmere/cotton blend {seriously like a blanket!}, plaid {so you have a built in grid to follow and super cute for the season} and with a great selvege edge {so you don't have to hem}.  Bonus* if you live in Seattle, Nancy's Sewing Basket, which has the most luxurious fabrics, is having their 25% off anniversary sale!  They ship as well.

Ready?
Measure to the middle, which should be 14 inches.

Cut lengthwise along one of those built in lines {don't worry if you aren't super straight, it all gets frayed later...}

You should have two very long strips, pin the end of one selvedged edge strip slightly on top of the end of the other strip's selvedged edge. {oh, I guess you need pins as well}

Simply sew together using a long straight stitch leaving a little bit, about 1/4 inch, open at each end so you can fray it later.

Now, you just need to sew a long straight stitch down each side of your super long scarf, about 1/4 inch in from the edge, so you leave room for fraying {and your stitch doesn't have to be perfectly straight}.

Time to fray, this is why you left 1/4 inch along each side, this will allow you to fray some, but it will stop once you get to the stitching, so we don't unravel the whole scarf.  SO start pulling the strings...

Keep fraying...

Now you have a very long scarf, frayed on each long side, and a lovely selvedged edge at each end -correct?  Time to add some personality to this extra long scarf.  Measure in about 3 inches or so {just look for a good grid line to follow}.  This is where you are going to begin your long straight stitch {I'm sounding pretty redundant aren't I?}.  Only this time we are going to pinch and gather with our fingers, creating pin tucks along the way...

Just pinch

and tuck underneath as you sew, every few inches or so, no need for exact, just get in a good rythm.

Go down one side and then back down the other (tucks will be in the opposite direction.

So, that's it.  Do you like?  I was on my own today, that is the reason for the self portrait camera angle...

This is my go-to way to wear a scarf, short or long; fold in half, but with one side slightly longer than the other

Then wrap around your neck and pull the two ends through the loop

and adjust a tiny bit sideways

Ta da!  and I'm out the door wearing my blanket...

and while you're here, look at my new earrings, what do you think?  We are in love with big earrings this fall, all coming the end of this month...

Happy Wednesday.

Best,
Kirsty

Wouldn't this be a lovely way to start the week...

How about some Monday morning inspiration,  and I feel its only appropriate to celebrate New York City.

I'd definitely wake up at the Plaza Hotel

in this gorgeous bed perhaps,  LOVE the velvet upholstery with gilded trim, and the woodwork detail on the walls, and that bench, ay.

and my room would definitely have a bathroom like this, bath?  yes please!

then a pumpkin spice latte, because, yes folks,  they have arrived!! {at least in Seattle so probably New York too.}

{via Starbucks}

and a trip to the Magnolia Bakery, because its peanut butter month of course, for a peanut butter chocolate brownie {Oh how I wish they delivered!}

{via Magnolia Bakery}

and then a stroll through Central Park.  Where we all would, as one wise friend of mine said, "look everyone in the eye and smile with them."  because you can't crush our spirit.

then maybe some shoe shopping...

Happy Monday.

Best,
Kirsty

{Healing Field Memorial}

On this 10th anniversary of 9/11, our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who lost someone in this tragic event,  those who risked their lives to help and those still serving for a greater good, and for the safety of our country.

May everyone cherish and enjoy those they love today.

Feature Friday

Feature Friday - so every Friday {or so} I thought we would feature one of our pieces, what inspired, how we are seeing it worn, possibly even offer it on sale...oh the possibilities!

Meet: Caroline

This necklace was inspired by two things, a mens necktie and a spool of vintage grosgrain ribbon I had found at an estate sale.

I don't remember where I was when the idea came to me - its usually at a stop light or in the middle of the night - so my drawings tend to be random sheets of scrap paper, whatever I can find before I lose the idea.

I also liked the idea of making it a little unexpected by wearing the ribbon asymmetrically on the necklace.

When I saw the green Czech glass beads, I was sure that they would be perfect, not quite turquoise, and a hint of that peely-paint-vintage-green-but-a-little-fresher color.

Why I like it {and why I think its been so well received}...

I like the Caroline necklace because its sort of preppy - but not too, with natural brass and gunmetal chain mixed in.

Its also great dressed up with a black dress or dressed down in t's and jeans, but still elevates your style and makes a statement {easily}.   Doesn't Mel look great!

That is my ultimate goal with a piece.

 I LOVE all the comments and pictures my customers have sent, that makes a crazy day so worth it.

and of course Monica - with her cute pink shoes.

Jen and her hub with their sweet dogs.  So honored to be in a family shot!

and a close up in action shot

Its the last month to take advantage of our Kickoff Promotionemail me how you would wear the Caroline necklace {or any lkj piece} and I will send you a code for 25% off our website.  Wouldn't it be fabulous to add the Caroline necklace to your wardrobe at 25% off, I think so.

so that's my first "Feature Friday", hope you liked.

Happy Friday!

Best,
Kirsty
