what i wore day & night

its quite a day when I get to wear a nice outfit in the day and another in the evening.  usually either day, night, or both consists of sweats or {the dreaded} yoga pants.  but not today folks!

day outfit - again wearing the Caroline, definitely a staple in my summer closet.  {which in the pacific northwest also contains a lot of winter clothes.}  found these red shoes and fell in love with the bright pinky coral-ish red color and thick heel.  fresh new accessories are a great way to give older basics a facelift don't you think?  realizing I need to take my own advice and get the self-tanner out, this outfit could use a little summer glow.

shirt - old from Gap
skirt - old from J. Crew {has pockets and pleats, double awesome}
shoes - Bronx, Queen Anne Dispatch. {don't you love the heel!}
necklace - Lucia K. Caroline.

night outfit - again a white shirt.  and bell-bottoms, I feel like they were making a come back and then poof gone?  well I'm still going with it, they make legs look long and the high-waist is great for the post babies tummy.  can you see my earrings?  I need to start taking a close up.  they are just awesome.  am I partial?  yes.  but really they are some of my favorites that I have designed.

jeans - seven for all mankind
tank top - old from Anthropologie
sandals - Frye, endless.com
belt - old from Target
earrings - Lucia K. Taylor
bracelets - Lucia K. Vintage Tag, and the Monogram Collection

{linking up with Pleated Poppy today for what i wore wednesday.}

happy wednesday.

cherry salsa awesome

cherry salsa, sounds a bit unusual right?

its seriously amazing.  even my husband who is a salsa purist enjoyed it.  and the deep red color with the green cilantro is so pleasing to the eye.  plus its a healthy snack right?  do it!

my new friend Sarah sent this recipe to me raving how wonderful it was.  and cherries just happen to be in abundance at our local farmers market.  no excuse, I had to try it.  and couldn't be more pleased.

I am not a food blog {but I do absolutely LOVE to eat},  so I apologize for my lack of measuring.

add to taste
fresh cherries.  pitted and roughly chopped.  I did about two cups-ish
garlic.  finely chopped.  I used two large cloves
jalepeno. finely chopped.  I did just a little
cilantro.  roughly chopped.  I did about a half cup - love the stuff!
fresh lime juice.  used 1 lime
cumin.  a few dashes
chili pepper.  again a few dashes
optional: cayenne.

then get some good tortilla chips and dig in.  and in.  and in.

this would be perfect to bring to the next party.  packaged up in a big mason jar with that color!  I meant to do this just so I could take a picture of this jeweled loveliness but I ate it too quickly.  we enjoyed this again in our backyard on the first night of summer.  so perfect.  thanks Sarah!

cherry season is here so hurry up already.  and tell me if you love it.

happy tuesday.

kirsty

teacher gift

I am utterly stunned that today is the last day of preschool for this year for my oldest.  its like high school graduation is just around the corner.  holy smokes.

here's what we decided to do for a teacher appreciation gift.  of course I love all the ideas out there and pinterest has some fun ones right?  we kept it simple.  and who doesn't love a Nordstrom gift card in the wake of the anniversary sale {me! me! me!}.

a simple embellishment.  do you remember rock candy lollipops?  I found them at our local candy shop.  they are also so fun as swizzle sticks in drinks for a shower or get together.  I love the wooden handle and nostalgic feel.  and the boys liked that candy was involved.

Riese wrote the cards.

mommy stamped them.

and wrapped them up.

and the boys delivered.

happy thursday.

what i wore {quest for cookie recipe, trends, a little transparency, and a Sale!}

outfit #1 - a date with a friend at a favorite local bakery for my favorite chocolate chunk peanut butter oatmeal cookie, its super chewy with gooey chocolate chunks but crunchy edges.  so dang good. {anyone have a great recipe for this one???!!}

ok.  summertime in a white tank with this necklace makes me happy.  I wrote previously about this necklace, so I won't do it again.  it is so effortless and the stripes with the green screams summer no matter what the trends are.  {or course I do love trends don't get me wrong, see next outfit...}  not exactly the best shot of the necklace, perhaps I was doing jumping jacks prior to this.  I can't remember.

trouser jeans - AG, Anthropologie
necklace - Lucia K. Caroline
hair-tie - see that blue number on my wrist, its these, they rock!  it was the best price and i got great grab bag colors.
toe nail polish - OPI "no room for the blues"

outfit #2.  we went to our nanny's {assistant/organizer/friend/confidant/etc} design graduation exposition.  she has taken care of my boys since I went back to work when my first was 5 months old.   lots of growing and changing has happened these past four years for us, and for her.  Super Excited for her future!  she will be missed though.

of course, I couldn't decide whether to tuck in my shirt or leave it out.

speaking of trends, I love the colored skinnies out there.  and I am even starting to love the printed jeans {think flowers, leopard, scary}.  I FINALLY found my pair.  thicker denim, not that summer-lightweight-not-working-for-my-behind-stuff.  and less expensive.  also really went for the platform shoe trend here too.  throw in leopard print.  really feeling it I guess.

shirt - Zara
jeans - American Eagle
shoes - Kelsi Dagger {on sale!}, Queen Anne Dispatch
bracelet - Lucia K Caroline

last outfit is sort of a hybrid of the two above.  this one was for a buyers meeting to talk about fall stuff.  yikes really fall?  I have a lot of work to do.

tank top -
blazer - Daughters of the Liberation, Anthopologie
jeans - American Eagle {in case you missed it the first time}
shoes - Kelsi Dagger, Queen Anne Dispatch

in the spirit of transparency {don't ask me why I felt like I should share this yikes!}...this is the lovely pile of laundry mess that was left waiting for my return.  it never ends right?

and lets just celebrate hump day and the first day of summer!  with a sale on my favorite summer pieces. the Caroline Flash Sale!  good till sunday.

linking up with Pleated Poppy today too.

happy wednesday.

best,
Kirsty

monday wish list

feeling slightly sluggish this monday morning.  I have never reeeealllly enjoyed mondays.  in my opinion, all the cliches are true when it comes to this first day of the week.

so here's to my wish list to motivate.  these are some of my current obsessions.  like a carrot-on-a-stick in front of me.  or more like sub a chocolate brownie for the carrot.

love the cat-eye retro vibe with the trademark Chanel leather quilting on the side.

rose gold with a hint of pink. chunky too.

definitely one of my all time favorite silhouettes and colors.  this is my for sure dream bag of the moment.

this lovely lignet roset couchy and ottoman thingy.  they have a showroom that I walk by on my way to bar method class.  modern furniture is the last thing anyone would expect in my house {including me}, isn't this awesome though!  I really really love it.  I think it would be so fantastically wonderful in a master bedroom {again if my bedroom were big enough to add this and a bed!}, place to snuggle and read a good magazine, or blog.  it would work so well with non modern styles.  it's like a shaped sleek yet comfy down comforter caterpillar.  well if I had the money to splurge on an item that would simply serve as a reading space in my bedroom, again a dream.

happy monday.

so lets get to work!

best,
kirsty

lkj insta-friday

here's what my iphone caught the last several days in the life of lkj

 stopped at "grandma and grandpa ducks" house to feed the ducks, and then scare them a bit.  so lush and green.  thanks to all that Seattle Rain.

earrings on display at our Queen Anne Dispatch show.  {thank you everyone who came!}

AJ styling the new blake necklace

finally hung, and turned on!, our outside arbor lights.  looking forward to summer entertaining.

have been hunting for months for colored skinnies that I loved and were affordable.  yay ae!

have you ever eaten french radishes or walla walla sweet spring onions?  oh they are good.  our neighborhood weekly farmers market has begun...produce, fresh baked goods, homemade jam, ginger beer, flowers, beignets, wood-fired pizza.  live music and a big lawn for the kids to run.  love it all!

my new chevron maxi skirt that I ordered months ago.  was backordered till I gave up hope, and then a package surprised me on my doorstep.  also isn't piperlime.com packaging fun?

hanging by my bedside, the new blake hand painted chain necklace and the Faye knotted chain.

my newest addiction, or maybe not after I ate most of the bag myself.  costco's pretzel slider buns.

my littlest counting spots on the lady bug.

a very special day.

I was given the honor of making the cake for my husband's grandma's 87th birthday.

my rules for cake are this, first - taste. second - presentation.  soooo I usually stick to the rustic kind, think mason jars, fresh fruit, homemade whip, overabundance of chocolate.  rustic, homemade, organic - all of these words make imperfections sound purposeful right?

but this moment called for more than a mason jar or a cupcake.  thought I would give a layered cake a try.  the other requirement was for it to be german chocolate.  also a first.

few things I learned
1.  there is a reason you have to let the cake, and all components, cool.  but you have to be patient and have the time, neither did I have.  so note the lovely bulges as my cake started to melt ever so slightly.

2.  if said attempt isn't fantastic, distract distract with decor.

rolled roses {from this amazing hand dyed silk ribbon, the hues and patterns - so beautiful!} mixed with some jute and accordion organza and dupioni silk.

some peonies, ladies mantle and hosta leaves are also helpful.

how does this lady not deserve the best?  what a legacy she has created over the last 87 years.

but I think I should stick to my mason jars.  and making jewelry.  her birthday gift...

happy thursday.

kirsty

what i wore

still waiting for that summer weather to head to Seattle, so working with layers in this one...

tank top - oldie from Banana Republic
sweater - Anthopologie {just got on sale yippee!}
jeans - Joe's jeans jeggings
boots - Frye
earrings - Lucia K. chevron {I know hopefully they will be up on the website this week??}
bracelets - the current combo du jour Lucia K. monogram "r' and "p" and vintage tag and the leather one {again soon!}

an outfit for a day out scouting new supplies...the leather store, couple fave vintage shops...

shirt - Anthropologie
jeans - Hudson Ferris Flare, Nordstrom Rack
shoes - 80%20, Karmaloop.com
necklace - Lucia K. Ginger {no longer available on our site, but a few left on endless.com}

I did manage to paint my toes orange, one of my favorite colors for the season.  My son's tball team is orange, bonus is that he thought I did it just for him.  he also told me he could NOT hear me cheering at the game and I needed to be louder.  um, cheer louder, absolutely.  here I thought he would be embarrassed by it, wonder how long he will love my cheering?  well I will continue for as long as he allows.  he was stoked, I was stoked.

Happy Wednesday.

what I wore + a baby shower.

 A few days after Kirsty threw her dear friend that baby shower from this post, I got to see all the cute creations in person and it inspired me. I have never really been a fan of baby showers...so when I had the chance to throw a shower for one of my friends...I thought what a better way to welcome this second little one than with sweet friends and some creative projects instead of testing candy bars inside diapers. {no offense to you if you love baby showers..I'm just slightly awkward playing games with people I barely know}

I did a little handmade banner with the new babe's name: Sydney

Since this is the momma's second kid (but different gender) we opted for no gifts at all and just had friends and family pitch in a few bucks to cover the costs of material. We had fabrics available for applique onesies and also fabrics for elastic flower headbands.

The only thing we did differently from Kirsty's shower, is we bought the steam-a-seam by the yard instead of in a package which saved money and gave us a little more flexibility with how much of each fabric we wanted.

check back for a DIY on the flower headbands, super easy to make!

My co-worker and I threw the shower for our friend and her mom was kind enough to host the brunch event at her lovely home in the burbs. We kept the menu fairly simple with some mini-quiches, yogurt parfaits, pioneer woman's scrumptious cinnamon rolls, fruit kabobs, cupcakes, and a super tasty baked brie dip. Her mom made up some extra special recipe for strawberry lemonade and of course mimosas.

picture at the top left is the momma to be with her sweet mom, who hosted us.

And finally, what I (we) wore. I snagged my dear friend Michelle to be in the picture with me (bonus, she just happened to be wearing Lucia K.)

on her: black tee {via}, spring skirt {via}, sandals {via}, and of course, Lucia K. necklace
on me: cream top {via}, black lace shorts, flats {via}, and earrings {via} and I should note, I am also
sporting the chunky bracelet that kirsty made for my wedding day... check it out here

Happy showering!
