Street Style: Incorporating our favorite 70's inspired pieces for fall

Fringe 2

Here is another episode of Jenn's Friday Favorites, this week's features how-to make this fall's 70's-inspired pieces relevant for everyday wear. Imagine clogs at school pick-up, flares to the office, a floppy hat just meant for the farmer's market, and fringe (plenty of it!) at happy hour. Flares When you've gone deep into skinny jeans, it's difficult to remember how to wear this wide-leg denim cousin. Rules to live by: 1) a heeled chunky shoe balances out the volume of the pant and 2) a shorter, more fitted top will accentuate your shape. Once you've got the proportions, it's so liberating - your calves will thank you!

Poncho Is it a blanket or a really big scarf? Hard to say but one thing is for sure, a poncho is the epitome of cozy chic wear. Regardless of what you layer underneath, you will look instantly cool (yet feel so warm!). Just be sure to wear more fitted pants, so that you are not swallowed up by volume (this can be either a slim silhouette or a flare pant that is fitted through the thigh).

Suede Skirt Nothing says fall like the buttery-soft texture of suede. A skirt in a rich brown shade hits all the right notes; pairing easily with nearly every neutral color in addition to complimenting all of the gorgeous jewel tones that are synonymous with fall. Just remember to play with proportions - for example, if it's a mini skirt, wear something more demure up top (like a turtleneck), or if it's midi length, balance the volume of the skirt with something more fitted.

Fringe What is more fun than the dancing movement of fringe...whether it's a purse, skirt, shoe (or all of the above)?! Make the fringed piece the highlight of your outfit and keep all other accessories complimentary yet subtle. However, if it's a festive occasion - throw caution to the wind!

Clogs This is my footwear obsession for fall. I'm loving the return of this totally fashion forward yet retro shoe. Stay clear of it's counterpart generally reserved for nursing, and bring on the classic wooden sole and stapled leather. Heel heights vary from cobblestone-friendly to bar-to-car wear. And don't fall into an outfit rut with this one either. While a simple jeans and tee ensemble is always appropriate, elevate the clog by pairing it with tights and a skirt. The possibilities can be endlessly fun.

Floppy Hat The must-have fall accessory, a floppy hat will instantly elevate any outfit from mediocre to awesome. My only advice is to "own it." You must wear a hat with confidence - hold your head high, and do not take it off inside. You are the girl rocking the hat, everyone will notice.
