My Favorite Jean Silhouette, Currently.

Well this shot seriously challenged our core strength.  How could we not honor the shoes?  And this is how the fun with Fitcode started.

But honestly these jeans, in a sea of embellished and bedazzled sometimes a simple silhouette speaks for itself.  And THIS silhouette is my current favorite favorite.  High waisted, fitted but not overly tight and a wider flare, with of course a cropped undone hem.  So I can still move in them, function as a mom but feel stylish.  These Joe's jeans got it right.

And when your jeans are simple, then you can make your outfit pop in other ways.  Think belts, shoes, accessories, statement shirts.

I have been wearing a lot of this silk scarf, not only as a necktie or headband, but now a belt.  Talk about versatile.  It works so well with my striped top.

And the icing on the cake, of course, is the stacked colorblock heels.  Stacked heels are much easier to walk in then their skinnier sidekicks, and they give great drama to your outfit.  These particular ones still happen to be available on sale.  Now if only spring would hurry up.  But I have also been wearing these jeans, since the shoot, with sneakers and flats and booties.  They work with everrrrything.

The Outfit That Makes The Best Date. Denim w/ Fitcode.

jeans and a button up shirt with heels

This outfit to me is the quintessential I feel like a woman outfit.  That classic tailored button up, this time with a sleek one piece popped collar and exaggerated cuffs, paired with a great pair of denim and a rocking pair of shoes.  This is one of my husbands favorite looks.  And it makes sense.  It's easy and comfortable, flattering and fun yet somehow it has subtle sex appeal.  It's that night out look I reach for when all I want to wear is sweats, yes that does happen, and I will be at total ease in this look and confident.  That speaks volumes, and makes the best date.

Recently I had the opportunity to shoot in studio with Fitcode.  It was so much fun, if you can't tell by the photos, there were a lot of laughs, and I tried my hardest to make some serious faces too.  That may need more work.

What I love about Fitcode is their celebration of Women (and Men's) figures, all shapes and sizes, and their commitment to helping everyone find their true fitting jean.  You can read more about Fitcode here.

These particular jeans are by Silver and I was pleasantly surprised when I put them on, no more overly embellished back pockets, which my back side does not need.  I love the wash and the distressing.  My shirt if from Sarah Alexandra, a local designer who is nailing the modern tailored shirt.

Never Gonna Get Over Overalls.

I have learned to very much appreciate pieces that can be worn a variety of ways for a variety of reasons.  Overalls totally fit this category.

I haven't managed to snap a photo every time I have worn these overalls, it's a lot, but this is a good sampling none the less.  If only I had that built in photographer everywhere I went, that didn't give unnecessary unsolicited advice.  I've worn them dressed up and down, casually for a day at the shop or spiffy for a night on the town.  They are the type of item that works with just about anything which means you don't have to think about it.

They are both comfortable and flattering, versatile yet they also make a statement - striking that wonderful balance.

Which is also how I justified purchasing both colors.  And dare I say there is a third beachy blue wash.  Ugh.  I'm gonna watch to see if they go on sale.  Just watch....

Black on black with the comfiest turtleneck and a pop of color in my flat red boots for a day at the shop.  I added a simple gold lariat necklace to break up all the black.  Rarely do I reach for all black but I love both these pieces so much it just seemed right.

This time I dressed my overalls up for a night on the town, I love the way they work with this off the shoulder top and stacked heels.  A little bit unexpected which I also love.  Bonus - wearing an off the shoulder top with overalls means you don't have to wear a strapless bra - the overall straps hide your bra straps.

Tassels, neckties and overalls.  Again a statement top underneath my overalls.  As long as your top isn't really long and bulky, you can pretty much put anything under these overalls.  The billowy blouse works well because it's light weight so you don't have to tuck in a lot of bulky fabric.

On our last trip to California we snapped some family photos.  I wanted to feel effortless but more than just jeans and a tank or tee.  This was my solution.  Another bonus is all the tops that are so in right now with the more cropped hem - made for high waisted jeans, also work with these overalls.

find overalls here in both blue and black, and a lighter wash hmmmm.
They run large, I went down a size.

Happy Dressing.

Mom, You Were Right.

As I am embracing mom jeans to the point I want nothing else, I am feeling a new connection to my mom.  She rocked mom jeans in an era that I was convinced low waisted jeans were the end all forever.  I can imagine her smiling down with a bit of a "I told you so" smirk.

So when I opened my photos and saw my mom in my photos it was so fitting, and slightly took my breath away.  I often can't explain what it is that brings my mom to the top of my thoughts, it's a feeling.  A sweet moment filled with aching sadness.  I find that I can't stop looking at these photos, searching for more of her.

These photos once again remind me - she's in me.  And I am not sure what she would think of my shirt.  I can picture her nose scrunched up in disapproval, in a way only a mom can, and in a way a daughter sort of welcomes.  Because what's a mother daughter relationship without disagreement on what I'm wearing.  And man what I would give to have that moment again.

So mom, you were right about mom jeans.  But trust me this shirt is awesome too.  And I sure do miss you.  SO much.

One Of A Kind Denim, Yes Please.

Recently I had the privilege to meet Marion, the fabulous mind behind Marz denim.  She took on the task to transform my beloved first pair of designer denim - lets not talk about when those came into my closet - and give them a new life.  Not limited to patching a large hole in the butt and resizing them a tad.

When we met I gave her full reign to design and alter as she wished, and I couldn't be more happy with the jeans she presented me.  I can't wait for fall weather - yes I just said that - to pair these jeans with sweaters and booties.

Marz denim came to be when Marion was inspired by the painted tree trunks on a trip to Mexico, but clearly her eye for style goes well beyond that.  I love her eye for detail.  Just look at those pink hangers.  Hmmm.  Maybe that would keep my closet picked up and organized.

Or those jeans on the end that she painted the poem her client had written, right?  Or these ones.

I love that she takes old denim and gives it new life, creating one of a kind pieces.  Marion searches out vintage brands such as Levi's, but she will also take your own and create something new.  With her background in fashion and stylish eye, well you can see the results.  Unique denim is everywhere right now, these jeans couldn't be hotter.

Plus she's keeping castoffs out of landfills.

Because Why Shouldn't It Be The Best Day Ever.

nordstrom anniversary sale

good hyouman graphic tank

I gushed about these jeans on Monday, how flattering they are.  This is further proof as I step out of my comfort zone in the same fitted skinny jeans and an almost cropped top.  It's a lot of exposed property if you know what I mean.

Along with my amazing jeans, 3 pieces I want to talk about that make me happy.

First, my sunglasses.  I just recently discovered Quay Sunglasses.  I love their oversized designer styles at affordable prices, and since these happen to be part of the Nordstrom sale, seriously affordable.

Second, my top.  Good Hyouman.  This company delivers smartly designed tees and tanks, made in the USA.  Many as collaborations with a proceed going to charity.  I love this tank, the fit and for sure the theme.  My youngest son found an old fishing lure in the lake when he was 4, treasure above treasures, and to this day it is still his best day ever.   What a great memory and reminder.

These are just a few of the ones I love...

Third, the shoes.  I found these at the Rack and they have been my summer heel of choice.  How perfect do they go with these jeans??  The stacked heel makes walking much more stable.  And I love the simple black toe strap and extra high ankle strap.  During the sale Dolce Vita has released an updated version, swapping out the summer cork for serious studs.  I so dig them, if I didn't already own these they'd be in my cart!

So that's today's outfit.  I am typing this on a tiny little iPad as I sit outside at 10pm next to our tent trying to soak up every minute of life, and thinking of moments that made today best day ever.   Because why not?

And seriously I think this one needs to happen.

Tomorrow I will take this outfit into fall fabulousness so please check back.
